What is special about Art at St Michael’s Primary School?
Our children love their Art and Design lessons. They happily throw themselves into all sorts of creative activities recognising Art as a form of self-expression and creativity.
As St Michael’s children move through the school, their learning journey in Art and Design is carefully planned. Children develop their knowledge and skills in drawing and painting in every year group. Added to this is an opportunity to widen their experience to include printing, sculpture, collage or mixed media work..
At St Michael’s we introduce our children to the work of artists from all over the world, from times past and present and encompassing a wide range of styles. We teach our children to explore ideas with their eyes and minds open. They are encouraged to share their opinions using a developing art vocabulary and to take inspiration from what they experience to inform their own design ideas.
At times noisy and exciting, at times calming and mindful, we want our Art and Design lessons to be embraced by all our children. We use outdoor learning and gallery visits to inspire and children use their sketchbooks to create a personal journal of their experiences, knowledge and increasing skill.
