The Importance of Regular School Attendance
Coming to school every day is one of the most important ways children can learn, grow, and succeed. Good attendance helps children feel confident, stay connected, and make the most of their education through;
- Social development - Being in school daily supports friendships, teamwork, and feeling part of the class and school community.
- Learning - Regular attendance helps children keep up with lessons, understand new ideas, and achieve their best. Missing school leads to learning gaps and makes it harder for children to catch up.
- Developing positive habits and routines - Attending school builds good habits like time‑keeping, responsibility, and a steady daily routine that becomes a lifelong habit.
- Familiarity and support - Consistent attendance allows your child to get to know their teacher, classmates, and other families, creating a supportive school community. Teachers can give the right help at the right time when children attend consistently.

How to Support Your Child’s School Attendance
Developing a habit of regular school attendance from an early age is integral to your child’s future learning. Here’s how you can help:
- Talk Positively About School: Encourage a positive attitude towards school to make your child excited about going each day.
- Establish Routines: Set regular times for breakfast and bedtime to ensure your child is well-rested and ready for the school day.
- Prepare the Night Before: Help your child get their school uniform and bag ready the night before to streamline their morning routine.
- Engage Daily: Spend time each day reading together and discussing your child’s day to reinforce their learning and identify the positives to make them feel supported.
When to Send Your Child to School
Not all illnesses mean children need to be kept off school. If you're unsure whether your child should attend, please contact the school to discuss their symptoms or you can check the Health security agency guidelines below.
